Interpellato con altri tecnici, dal governo di Firenze circa la possibilità di deviare il corso all'Arno per allagare Pisa costringendola alla resa, Leonardo si dedicò allo studio del territorio pisano con particolare attenzione all'aspetto idrografico. Alla partecipazione al progetto potrebbero essere riferiti i due disegni di scavatrice rintracciabili nel C. A..
I due fogli evidenziavano il diverso funzionamento di due gigantesche macchine: in questo modo Leonardo poteva far risaltare la superiorità della macchina da lui proposto, la scavatrice n°1, rispetto a quella tradizionale, la scavatrice n°2 qui sopra illustrata. Secondo altri studiosi, il progetto della nuova scavatrice potrebbe essere, invece, ricollegabile agli studi compiuti nei primi anni del 500 dal maestro per canalizzare e rendere navigabile l'Arno.

DIGGER MACHINE N°2

Consulted together with other technicians, by the government of Florence about the possibility to deviate the flow on the Arno river, to flood and force Pisa into surrendering, Leonardo devoted himself to the study of the Pisa territories paying particular attention to the hydrographical aspect.
The two drawings found on the C.A. might refer to the participation on this project. The two sheets remark the different operation of the two gigantic machines, in this way Leonardo could stand out the superiority of the machine he proposed, the excavator No.1, compared to the traditional one, the excavator No.2, above shown.
While, according to other Leonardo scholars the project of the new excavator could be referred to the study carried out by the Master at the beginning of the 5 century to canalise and make navigable the Arno river.

EXCAVATRICE N°2

Interpellé avec d'autres techniciens par le gouvernement de Florence relativement à dévier le cours de l'Arno pour inonder Pisa afin de l'obliger à la capitulation, Leonardo se dédia à l'étude du territoire pisan avec une attention particulière à l'aspect hydrographique. Les deux plans d'excavatrices indiqués dans C.A. pourraient faire partie du projet.
Les deux dessins mettent en évidence le différent fonctionnement des deux gigantesques machines ; ainsi Leonardo pouvait exalter la supériorité de la machine par lui proposée ; l'excavatrice N°1, par rapport à celle traditionelle, c'est à dire l'excavatrice N°2 ci-dessus dessinée.
Selon d'autres auteurs, le projet de la nouvelle excavatrice pourrait être au contraire liée aux études effectuées dans les premières années du 500 par le maître pour canaliser et rendre navigable l'Arno.

BAGGER N°2

Leonardo wurde zusammen mit anderen Techniker von der Regierung von Florenz befragt, um der Flussablauf von Arno abzuleiten, damit Pisa überschwemmet sei und sie zur Übergabe gezwungen war. Deshalb widmet sich Leonardo an das Studium vom Pisa-Gebiet mit besonderer Achtung an die hydrographische Seite.
Die beiden Zeichnungen der Bagger im C.A. angegeben, Könnten auf dieses Projekt bezogen sein.
Beide Zeichnungen stellten die unterschiedlichen Funktionsweisen der riesengroßen Maschinen dar: damit konnte Leonardo die Überlegenheit die von ihm vorgeschlagene Maschine, der Bagger Nr.1 statt der traditionelle Bagger Nr.2 auffallen.
Anderer Wissenschaftler nach, könnte das Projekt des neuen Baggers an die Studien vom Lehrer Anfang 500 gebunden sein, um der Fluss Arno zu kanalisieren und um ihn schiffbar zu machen.
